Business Entity and Company Search
Public business registries can help answer basic questions about whether a company is registered, where it was formed, whether it is active, and what public filings or registered-agent information are available.
Start with the state registry
Corporations, LLCs, partnerships, nonprofits, and other entities are generally registered at the state level. The secretary of state or equivalent agency is usually the best starting point for entity existence and status.
Separate entity identity from trade names
A brand or website name may differ from the legal entity name. DBA or assumed-name records, registered-agent details, addresses, and filing history can help connect the public-facing business to the registered entity.
Status does not prove business quality
Active registration shows that an entity is listed in the registry; it does not establish financial health, licensing compliance, reputation, or the truth of claims made by the business.
Connect entity research to legal questions
Business-registry information can help identify the correct party for contracts, service, litigation, licensing research, or public-record requests, but additional sources may be needed for the underlying legal issue.
