Why DOCX is useful

DOCX keeps the draft editable in common word processors. It is useful when you need to revise clauses, correct facts, add exhibits, apply court formatting, or send the document to an attorney for review.

Why PDF is useful

PDF preserves layout for review, printing, recordkeeping, and situations where a fixed visual format is helpful. A PDF should still be checked against any filing or e-signature requirements that apply.

File format does not make a document legally sufficient

A polished file can still contain wrong facts, missing signatures, outdated citations, an incorrect form, or procedural defects. The substance and the governing rules matter more than the export format.

Keep a reviewable version

When possible, retain an editable copy along with the final PDF so corrections can be made without recreating the document from the beginning.
